How to make a cushion cover and bed sheet mockup

Home textiles sell on mood. A cushion on a sofa or a sheet on a made bed lets a buyer picture it in their own room. Drapeshot puts your print on cushion covers, pillowcases and bed sheets in real home scenes, as a placed design or a repeat.

Print areas for home textiles

Bandanas, aprons and stoles also offer both a placed print and an all over repeat, if you sell those alongside your home range.

Make the mockup, step by step

  1. Open the scene wall and filter by Cushion cover, Pillowcase or Bed sheet.
  2. Drop your design in. For a placed print, a transparent PNG gives a clean edge. For a repeat, use a single motif.
  3. Pick the fabric colour. Natural, white and sand suit most home prints, and you can set any colour you like.
  4. Open a scene and pick the print area. For a placed print, size and move it. For all over, set the pattern size and spacing under Advanced.
  5. Choose a print look. Original keeps full colour. Two colour, Riso and Bold dots give a block printed or screen printed feel.
  6. Download the mockup, and the print file for your maker.

Placed print or repeat?

A placed print works for a single illustration, a quote or a photo on a cushion. Keep it inside the 12 inch area and leave room at the edges, because seams and piping eat into the face of a real cushion.

A repeat suits patterns, florals and block print style motifs. On a bed sheet the starting motif is about 9 inches on its long side, much bigger than on clothing, because sheets are seen from further away. If your motif is small and detailed, push the pattern size down so it reads as texture, or up so the detail shows.

Bed sheets can also take a large centre medallion, a classic look for printed Indian bedspreads. Combine it with a plain fabric colour for a clean look.

Pick rooms that sell the feeling

  • Use the At home setting filter for sofas, beds, a verandah bench and a rooftop charpai.
  • Use Product only scenes when the print is the hero, and scenes with people for a lived-in feel.
  • Show the same print on a cushion and a pillowcase to sell a matching set. Your design, colour and look carry across products in one project.

Print files for big textiles

Print file saves your design alone, at the inches it prints at. On Pro it is a transparent PNG at 300 ppi. Files are capped at 7,200 pixels on the longest side, so very large placed prints such as a 30 inch medallion come out at a lower ppi. Check the size in the message after download and confirm it with your printer.

For a repeat you get one seamless tile instead. See all over print mockups for how it works.
